He has been appointed as the Chairman of the Press Council of Nepal. In accordance with the responsibilities and restrictions attached to this role, he is currently on public service leave from the firm for the duration of his tenure and is not engaged in private legal practice during this period.

Dr. Kumar Sharma Acharya is a licensed Senior Advocate and Senior Partner at A.H.N Legal, bringing over forty-two years of distinguished legal experience in Nepal. Since beginning his practice in 1984, he has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most respected experts in commercial litigation, arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, and legal reform. Dr. Acharya is widely recognized as a senior advocate in Nepal for corporate, industrial, real estate, labor, and financial dispute resolution.

He is a lifetime member of the Nepal Council of Arbitration and a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, with a long history of leadership in the Nepalese legal sector. Dr. Acharya has held key positions, including Vice President of the Nepal Bar Association, Executive Member of the Nepal Mediation Council, Executive Committee Member of the Nepal Bar Council, and has recently been appointed Chairman of the Nepal Press Council.

Actively engaged in arbitration and mediation since 2003, Dr. Acharya has contributed significantly to the development of Nepal’s alternative dispute resolution frameworks, local and municipal laws, and broader legal reforms. His expertise includes advising national and international institutions, including USAID, The Asia Foundation, UNDP, the Government of Nepal, and the National Business Initiative, as well as acting as an arbitrator in complex commercial disputes.

Dr. Acharya holds a Master’s Degree in Business and International Trade Law and a doctoral degree focusing on procedural law and Supreme Court jurisprudence. His academic background complements extensive practical experience in commercial litigation, corporate disputes, construction law, financial crimes, and civil law matters. He has trained judges, police officers, and legal professionals through government-led programs and has published numerous articles in national newspapers, including award-winning contributions in Kanoon, a leading law journal.

Recognized by the Government of Nepal as the Convener of the Law Drafting and Recommendation Commission of Lumbini Province, Dr. Acharya supervised the drafting and formulation of provincial legislation. The Supreme Court of Nepal also appointed him as an Ambassador for the Promotion of Mediation, reflecting his commitment to strengthening dispute-resolution systems across the country.
